Home Bargains is set to open a new store at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre in Gillingham, Kent. The value retailer has signed a 15-year lease for a 20,000 sq ft ground floor unit, with the store opening in November. The unit, previously occupied by BHS, has been refurbished as part of a multimillion-pound investment programme by the landlord into Hempstead Valley. The South Mall entrance has also been enhanced, incorporating new signage featuring koi carp imagery – a homage to the centre’s original 1980s water feature.

Supermarket Income REIT has acquired a Tesco supermarket in Ashford, Kent, for £54.1m, reflecting a net initial yield of 7.0%. Situated on an 8.2 acre site, the asset comprises a 93,000 sq ft food store and adjacent petrol filling station. Tesco has traded from the site for over 30 years and uses the store as an online fulfilment hub with 14 delivery vans. The supermarket also offers click-and-collect services.

Frasers Group is looking to continue its shopping centre spree as the group eyes a purchase of Fremlin Walk in Maidstone, Kent. The Mike Ashley-owned group is in discussions with scheme owner M&G Real Estate as it looks to add the 350,000 sq ft asset to its portfolio, The Times has reported. Fremlin Walk opened in 2005 and is home to retailers such as Boots, H&M, JD Sports, and Pandora.
