Hammerson has completed its acquisition of Brent Cross, purchasing the remaining units of the Greater London shopping centre for £186m. The real estate investment trust has acquired 95% of the units in the Abrdn UK Shopping Centre Trust (SCUT), which holds the 59% of Brent Cross not already owned by Hammerson. The group said the acquisition price represented a 6% discount to the December 2024 book value, and reflected a net initial yield of 8.

Hammerson has confirmed that it is in the process of acquiring full control of Brent Cross shopping centre in Greater London. The real estate investment trust said that it intends to acquire the units within Abrdn's UK Shopping Centre Trust (SCUT) – which holds the 59% of the scheme not already held by Hammerson – for a total consideration of £200m. Hammerson's existing stake, together with the SCUT units it has already acquired or for which contracts have been exchanged, currently represents an interest in Brent Cross of over 90%.

SGS Group, the owner of Atria Watford, is to rebrand the shopping centre to its previous name. From this summer, the scheme will be called Harlequin, a decision which SGS Group said was backed by overwhelming public sentiment. The group said the strategic rebrand reflects a significant investment drive designed to elevate the scheme's retail, food, and leisure offer, enabled by the corporate restructuring of SGS Group in 2024.
