Mayor of London hails "momentous" occasion as Oxford Street pedestrianised

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has hailed a "momentous occasion for the capital" as London's Oxford Street becomes permanently traffic-free for the first time. A section of Oxford Street between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street is now closed to private motorised vehicles, buses, taxis, private hire vehicles, cycles, scooters, and pedicabs. The first stage of the pedestrianisation project will see the introduction of a temporary ‘transitional scheme’ aimed at delivering some immediate improvements for visitors, while enabling public feedback to help refine the final designs for a traffic-free Oxford Street.

Waitrose opens first new supermarket in eight years in North London

Waitrose has opened its first new supermarket in eight years in Cricklewood, North London, as the retailer confirms plans for four more new stores. The opening of the retailer's 18,000 sq ft 'Home of Food Lovers' store is its first full-line supermarket launch since 2018 and will be followed by the opening of a Waitrose supermarket in Hale Barns, Greater Manchester in November. In addition, Waitrose has acquired four sites for new stores, all of which are set to open from 2027.

ONLY to make London outlet debut at The O2

ONLY is set to open its first outlet store in London at Outlet Shopping at The O2. The Danish fashion retailer – which operates over 1,200 stores across Europe, Asia, and North America – will open in a 4,000 sq ft space, in close proximity to the likes of Kate Spade New York, Calvin Klein, and Reiss. ONLY at The O2 will stock a range of womenswear, menswear, and children’s collections, alongside footwear and accessories.
