One of the largest IMAX screens in the North West is set to open at <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/houndshill-shopping-centre-blackpool-4223">Houndshill Shopping Centre</a> in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/blackpool">Blackpool</a> next month, asset manager Ellandi has announced.



Opening on 22 March, Backlot Imax Cinema will feature a 10.85 metres high and 19.87 metres wide screen, complemented by a 100-seat diner serving burgers, hotdogs and wings, as well as a range of desserts.



The Backlot has been designed to create an arts and entertainment hub for local residents and visitors, aiming to become the main place in town to host events such as corporate conferences, birthday parties, comedy nights, gaming nights, and community meet-ups.



Building on Blackpool's long history of picture houses, the new extension of the shopping centre will aim to increase footfall and have a positive impact on the surrounding businesses.



Tim Cornford, head of asset management at Ellandi, said: “This new opening of IMAX cinema is part of the exciting regeneration plans for Blackpool. The regeneration of Blackpool town centre is a great example of public/private partnership working at its best. Our vision is to transform Blackpool’s shopping and town centre into a sustainable and thriving destination to reflect the needs and wants of residents, shoppers and visitors. The completion of phase 2 has created over 100 new jobs within the local area and it’s anticipated to contribute to an additional 1.2 million shoppers and visitors to Houndshill Shopping Centre.”

<a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/blackpool">Blackpool</a> Council has released over 5,000 sq ft of retail space at its £350m Talbot Gateway development.



Sitting at the ground level of the 144-bedroom Holiday Inn hotel, the new units which range in size between 400 sq ft and 1,800 sq ft are set to be available from Easter 2024.



In addition to the five units at the base of the hotel, another two are available underneath the council's main offices within the development.



All of the units have planning permission for Class E retail use and feature mains water and electric alongside telecoms and data access.



The wider development also includes an underpass between Blackpool North train station and a new tramway extension linking the town centre and Blackpool Promenade. In addition, construction on a £100m Civil Service Hub is underway, while land acquisition for the £65m Multidiversity campus is also taking place.



Councillor Mark Smith, cabinet member for levelling up at Blackpool Council, said: “The scale of regeneration in Blackpool right now is incredible and we’re proudly boasting about our £2 billion growth and prosperity programme.



“At the Talbot Gateway, progress is being made on three major phases to regenerate the area around the train station which will bring thousands of professional workers and students into the area every day, while the tramway extension and underpass make it much more accessible to reach Blackpool Promenade and all our major attractions by rail.”
