<a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/cwmbran-shopping-centre-cwmbran-3980">The Cwmbran Centre</a> welcomed 1.6 million more visitors in 2023 than in 2022, an increase of 6% – and a bucking of national trends.



Christmas footfall at the scheme – which is owned by LCP, part of M Core – also increased by 700,000 to 2.38 million.



Spanning over 740,000 sq ft, The Cwmbran Centre is home to 180 retail units and is anchored by the likes of Dunelm and Primark. It also welcomed a number of new tenants last year, including The Range, Coffee#1, Loungers, One Beyond, and a number of independent traders.



Alex Williams, of LCP, said: “The arrival of several high calibre retailers at Cwmbran Centre has contributed to a continued increase in footfall and ensured that the town centre remains the&nbsp; leading shopping experience in the region.”



“Over Christmas, our markets, festive events and themed lights switch on were all huge hits, helping us to achieve a 29% growth in visitor numbers.”&nbsp;



“It’s important to us to understand what makes a local community tick and what kind of shops and brands will work in a location. Loungers is gearing up to open Consurio Lounge at <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/castle-court-shopping-centre-caerphilly-3838">Castle Court Shopping Centre</a> in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/caerphilly">Caerphilly</a>, South Wales, this December.



The name - consurio meaning 'conjuring' in Welsh - is a nod to comedian and magician Tommy Cooper's home town.



James Taylor, asset manager at ESTAMA UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be welcoming Loungers to Castle Court Shopping Centre. Loungers are a superb occupier who will enhance the offer that the shopping centre provides to the town and community. This is a real show of faith in the town as it embarks on exciting regeneration plans."



In October, Loungers - which owns the Lounge, Cosy Club, and Brightside brands - <a href="https://news.completelyretail.co.uk/loungers-on-track-to-open-a-record-number-of-sites/">said it is on track to open a total of 34 new sites during the 2024 financial year</a> – a record number for the group.

Loungers to open in South Wales shopping centre

The Range has agreed to join <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/cwmbran-shopping-centre-cwmbran-3980">Cwmbran Shopping Centre</a>, taking residency in the former Wilko store.



Taking 30,620 sq ft of retail space, the homeware and garden retailer has signed a 15-year lease at the South Wales destination.



The retailer expects to open the store within the coming months.



LCP, part of M Core, owns and manages the shopping centre. It has recently secured a number of new deals with occupiers, including the recently opened Coffee#1 and Dunelm, which is set to launch at the end of the month.



Alex Williams, asset manager at LCP, said: “The Range consistently tops the list of desired new entrants to the town when we carry out customer feedback. We are delighted to be able to deliver on this desire and look forward to welcoming another household name to the town centre.



“The swiftness with which we’ve been able to secure reoccupation of the former Wilko space - with The Range being just one of numerous interested parties - is a testament to the continued high level of demand for retail premises in Cwmbran. It’s been a pleasure to work with the team at The Range to ensure that the transaction proceeded efficiently to enable opening prior to the busy Christmas period.”



M Core said it has invested over £160m during the last 12 months in 25 retail centres. Its major acquisitions include M Park Alexandra in Lincolnshire, Weavers Wharf in Kidderminster and M Park Ocean Plaza and Central 12 in Southport.



The group said it has £300 million available to invest in assets ranging from £500,000 to £30m, and portfolios up to £150m.
