The 180,000 ft town centre provides over 60 shops and is anchored by a new ALDI store. This has been complemented by a large 25,000 sq ft Wilko as well as by brands such as Select fashions investing and refitting their stores. The redevelopment of Aycliffe Town Centre is transforming the town as a retail destination, attracting new occupiers and providing a hub for Newton Aycliffe’s rapidly growing residential and business community. The comprehensive refurbishment of the main shopping area is the latest phase of development within the masterplan. New flooring, finishes, facilities, seating and landscaping has revitalised the heart of the town. Billingham town centre is a 320,000 sq ft open air retail scheme. Billingham is part of the Tees Valley Economic area, home to the largest integrated chemical complex in the UK. Queen Street Shopping Centre is an enclosed retail centre, originally constructed in 1968. The centre comprises 30 retail units and is anchored by River Island, Trespass, Poundworld, Iceland, Thorntons and Starbucks. The centre is arranged in an ‘L’ shape, with 6 units fronting Northgate and 3 units fronting Prospect Place. The majority of the retail units have storage areas at first floor and, if applicable, second floor level. The centre provides a total of 76,648 sq ft (7,120.60 sq m) of floor space.

The Cornmill Shopping Centre is a dominant shopping centre with balanced retail offer and strong occupier demand with a catchment population of 311,000.
