Castlegate Shopping Centre is a busy centre located between the High Street and the A3105 ring road. The High Street frontage provides the major pedestrian access into the centre benefiting from being directly adjacent to the town’s bus station and main taxi rank. The centre also benefits from a footbridge over the ring road and the River Tees linking directly with the Teesdale Business Park. Castlegate provides the only covered shopping centre within the town comprising circa 340,000 sq ft of retail accommodation arranged as 59 units, which trade predominantly at ground level, and storage at first. It originally opened in 1973 and was subject to a phased refurbishment programme including an extension during the mid to late 1990’s. It has been further improved by the current owner, extending the market hall and fully refurbishing the car park.

Stockton-on-Tees is a strategically located commercial centre located approximately 36 miles (58 kilometres) to the south of Newcastle, 58 miles (93 kilometres) north of Leeds and 109 miles (175 kilometres) north east of Manchester. Stockton-on-Tees benefits from good communications, lying 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) to the east of the A19 and A66 intersection and has excellent access to the A1 (M). Thornaby Railway Station lies adjacent to Teesdale Business Park and provides regular services to Darlington and Middlesbrough. Mainline rail services are available at Darlington Station approximately 15 miles (24 kilometres) to the west and provide direct services to London Kings Cross to the south (2 ½ hours) and Edinburgh to the north (2 hours).
