The second phase of a retail park in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/ballymena">Ballymena</a>, Northern Ireland has been acquired by local investor for an undisclosed sum.



The 93,000 sq ft <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/braidwater-retail-park-phase-ii-ballymena-3611">Braidwater Retail Park</a> - which is home to tenants including The Range, Harry Corry, and Smyths Toys - has been purchased by Magmel.



Andrew Coggins, senior director at CBRE NI, which acted for the vendor, said: “The sale of Braidwater Retail Park is just the latest in what has been a strong year for investment sales volumes in Northern Ireland.



“Retail in general and in particular retail warehouse parks have been greatly resilient over recent years with strong tenant demand and resulting low vacancy rates presenting attractive prospects to investors.



“This transaction illustrates that, while the wider market is challenging, there is still significant levels of strong buyer interest where quality assets are concerned.”



Ryan Walker, director of Magmel, added: “Following our purchase of Phase 1 Braidwater Retail Park in 2022, we are delighted to acquire Phase 2 as we continue to expand our growing portfolio.



“With its enviable location and strong anchor tenants, the park aligns with our other assets in the sector and we look forward to building on its exceptional performance in the years ahead.”

Investor snaps up Ballymena retail park

Councillors in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/belfast">Belfast</a> have granted planning permission for the construction of a three-storey Premier Inn hotel just 100 metres from the city's airport.



The proposals for the 81-bedroom hotel in Crumlin also include the creation of a restaurant and bar as well as a 130-space car park.



The development is said to be worth around £5.5m.



A senior planning officer told Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council that the proposed site is already earmarked for airport use, adding that permission had been approved previously in 2018.



Concerns over road safety were noted, however, the Department for Infrastructure did not put forward any objection.



Tom McGrath, chair of Belfast International Consultative Forum, said in the pre-application community consultation report: “An 81-bed hotel will be a significant boost. We have to build new facilities if we are to expand our tourism offer.



"As the airport grows, so too will demand for quality facilities."



David Shaw, general manager of airline Woodgate Aviation, added: “The hotel directly mirrors the growth being experienced on the airport site. This proposed investment proves just how much an economic hub the airport is and what it’s capable of delivering for the wider Northern Ireland economy.”



Premier Inn has previously said that it is looking to open more sites across the UK.

Chinese retailer MINISO is set to open its second store in Northern Ireland at the <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/Tower-Centre-Ballymena">Tower Centre</a> in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/ballymena">Ballymena</a>.



Taking a 2,700 sq ft unit opposite Dunnes Stores, the lifestyle retailer will open on Friday 8 September, joining other tenants such as Tommy Hilfiger and Sports Direct.



MINISO's opening in Ballymena follows the launch of its <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/belfast">Belfast</a> store at <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/https-finchcre-com-wp-content-uploads-2022-06-13181-Wirefox-CastleCourt-brochure-v5-pdf">CastleCourt Shopping Centre</a> earlier this year.



The retailer's new store will become its fifth largest in the UK and its 21st nationwide.



Jonathon Martin, director at Lambert Hampton Smith, which manages Tower Centre on behalf of the landlord, said: "Promoting an engaging shopping experience, the retailer has something that will appeal to everyone and will be a welcomed addition to the Tower Centre."
