Escape room and bar concept The Escapologist is set to make its debut in the North East at <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/gateshead">Gateshead's</a> <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/the-metrocentre-gateshead-4406">Metrocentre</a>.



Opening this summer, the concept will occupy a 4,367 sq ft space on the scheme's Lower Yellow Mall.



Joining its existing sites in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/leeds">Leeds</a> and <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/castleford">Castleford</a>, The Escapologist will bring a series of themed escape rooms to Metrocentre, with genres such as heists, fantasy, horror, and space.



The venue will also have a steampunk-style bar, offering a range of cocktails and mocktails.



The Escapologist will complement the existing leisure operators already within Yellow Mall, including Namco Funscape, Clip 'n Climb, Treetop Golf, and Odeon Cinema, as well as nearby bars and restaurants such as Slim Chickens, Wagamama, and Wingstop.

This news follows the recent announcement that <a href="https://news.completelyretail.co.uk/metrocentres-green-mall-to-welcome-trio-of-brands/">Metrocentre is set to welcome a trio of retailers to its Green Mall</a>, with specialist kitchenware brand ProCook joining later this year, whilst Clarks and Victoria’s Secret will be relocating to new stores.

Specialist leisure real estate advisory firm Stärka has won two high-profile instructions from <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/sunderland">Sunderland</a> City Council.



Stärka will advise on the council's plans to create a new city centre entertainment district on the site of the former Crowtree Leisure Centre. The development will sit adjacent to the £1.5bn Riverside Sunderland urban quarter, which is currently being created on either side of the River Wear.



The new district – which is being backed by the Government's Future High Streets Fund – will extend to approximately 60,000 sq ft and may include an events space, food hall, restaurants, and other food and beverage concepts.



In addition, Stärka has been appointed to advise on the leasing of the leisure space within Sunniside Leisure Scheme. Targeting a mixture of national, regional, and local operators, Stärka will look to create a diverse offer that appeals to residents, workers, visitors, and Sunderland's student community.

The adjacent Riverside Sunderland development covers 32 hectares and will include one million sq ft of office space, 1,000 new homes to rent and buy, a number of new civic, public and cultural assets, as well as the transformation of St Mary’s Boulevard. The development is expected to double the resident population in the city centre to 5,000 people and create up to 10,000 new jobs.



Since launching in January 2022, Stärka has worked on a number of significant transactions and re-gears totalling over 600,000 sq ft. It has also secured new clients such as Everyman Cinema, <a href="https://news.completelyretail.co.uk/agents-appointed-as-gravity-seeks-new-sites/">Gravity Active Entertainment</a>, Blacklock, Côte, Bundobust, <a href="https://news.completelyretail.co.uk/oxygen-appoints-real-estate-advisors/">Oxygen FreeJumping</a>, and <a href="https://news.completelyretail.co.uk/bean-coffee-roasters-appoints-agents-for-national-roll-out/">Bean Coffee</a>.  Its landlord mandates include Grosvenor, DTZ IM, Schroders, Pradera Lateral, and DS Properties.

Sovereign Centros from CBRE has announced that a trio of retailers will be opening at <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/the-metrocentre-gateshead-4406">Metrocentre's</a> Green Mall in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/gateshead">Gateshead</a>.



Leading the signings is specialist kitchenware brand ProCook, which is set to open a 3,326 sq ft space on Metrocentre's Lower Green Mall later this year. The store will offer a range of cookware, knives, tableware, and smaller kitchen appliances.



The Green Mall will also welcome footwear retailer Clarks next month, which will relocate from Metrocentre's Lower Red Mall. Taking a 3,619 sq ft unit opposite Boots, the store will offer Clarks' new 'modern workshop' format, delivering a new look.



Also relocating from the Lower Red Mall is Victoria's Secret, which will open in a 5,411 sq ft space later this summer adjacent to Next. The store will offer the international brand's range of products including intimate apparel, beauty products, and sleepwear.
