Chopstix opens first restaurant in Colchester

Chopstix has continued its expansion with the opening of its first restaurant in Colchester, Essex. The quick-service restaurant operator's (QSR) new space is located on Culver Street West, a short walk from Colchester Castle. The opening represents the latest step in Chopstix's growth strategy, following investment from European QSR operator, QSRP, in October 2024. With Essex identified as a significant opportunity for growth for the business, Colchester marks the company’s third UK opening of 2026 and the first store to open in Essex since the brand's launch in Basildon in June 2024.

Private investor acquires Colchester retail park for £34m

A private South African client of Pembrey Asset Management has acquired Stane Retail Park in Colchester from the developer Churchmanor Estates for £33.95m. Comprising 123,637 sq ft of retail accommodation, the scheme was opened in phases between October 2021 and October 2022 and is anchored by an 80,000 sq ft purpose-built M&S store. Other tenants at Stane Retail Park include Superdrug, Mountain Warehouse, Furniture Village, Greggs, and Cook.

Five restaurants sign for Colchester leisure park development

Five new restaurant operators have been signed to Turnstone Estates' £70m leisure park development in Colchester. The signings mark a step forward for the wider 10-acre Northern Gateway development at Junction 28 of the A12. Alongside the recently opened Northern Gateway Sports Park, the development will include new homes, a healthcare hub and commercial floorspace. Mexican operator El Guaca will take a 3,305 sq ft unit, whilst dessert restaurant Kaspa's will occupy a 3,132 sq ft space.
