The Brunswick in Scarborough is set to undergo a rebrand as part of a redevelopment project that aims to regenerate the town centre. Property regeneration and placemaking specialist Scarborough Group International (SGI) – which owns the Brunswick Centre – has announced that the centre will be renamed 'Square One', or SQ1. The new name is inspired by the traditional role of town squares as hubs for community interaction, commerce, and celebration.

Property regeneration and placemaking specialist Scarborough Group International (SGI) has announced that ODEON will anchor its redevelopment of the Brunswick Centre in Scarborough. The cinema operator previously operated in Scarborough from 1936 to 1988, having been located near to the Brunswick Centre where the Stephen Joseph Theatre now stands. Once complete, SGI's development will offer 20 units ranging between 250 sq ft and 20,000 sq ft across three floors, providing space for national and regional F&B brands and leisure concepts.

Formal plans for an £11m revamp of Scarborough's historic West Pier are due to be submitted to councillors. The proposals will look to bring a number of benefits to the town's fishing industry, businesses, residents, and visitors. The plans for the West Pier include a new seafood restaurant and a new public space, which could be used for outdoor events and cultural activities. Also proposed are new kiosks, parking, vehicle and pedestrian management, improved offices, sheds and warehousing for the fishing sector, and new public toilets.
