A retail-led mixed use development completed in 2003, which stands on the street which was built as part of the rebuilding since the 1996 IRA bombing of the city centre.

Masterplanned by BDP the New Cathedral Street project is a coherent city block with three distinct elements: a 8,800 sq m (95,000 sq ft) prestigious Harvey Nichols department store, 18,800 sq m (202,000 sq ft) of retail units (10 individual shops including restaurants and a high rise residential development located in the south west corner of the site.

The project completes the transformation of the former Shambles West area in the city centre.

New Cathedral Street is a new pedestrianised upmarket retail area of Manchester. It runs between Exchange Square and St Anne's Square.
