Development at a <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/preston">Preston</a> hotel which was halted by administration troubles could be resumed after the submission of fresh plans.



Proposals submitted by Signature Living for the Shankly Hotel could see the creation of a new bar and restaurant, wedding and events space, and a spa.



Signature Living purchased the property, which was formerly a Post Office building, from Preston City Council in 2018.



Work to transform the building had started in 2017 but was delayed in 2019 due to uncertainty around Brexit and additional issues relating to asbestos within the site.



The Pandemic then caused the delays to continue, however work resumed in June 2020 and the building’s new roof extension was eventually completed by 2021.



Work at the hotel came to a stop in August 2022 when Signature Living entered administration, owing over £22m to its creditors.



It is not specified how many rooms the hotel will include, however Signature Living had previously received permission for 66. It is believed that around 60 room will be created.

IKEA has launched a third north west 'Plan &amp; Order Point' in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/preston">Preston</a>, following openings in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/aintree">Aintree</a> and <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/stockport">Stockport</a>.



The 1,300 sq ft unit at <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/scheme/Deepdale-Shopping-Park-Preston">Deepdale Retail Park</a> is designed to offer customers inspiration for kitchen and bedroom planning.



It also houses a click-and-collect service for any products ordered online.



The launch is part of a wider strategy by the Swedish furniture retailer to become more sustainable and accessible for customers in the North West, which IKEA area manager Michael Parker described as a “key region”.



Michael Parker, area manager for IKEA UK, said: "In a year when IKEA celebrates its 80th birthday, the North West is extra special to us, being home to our first UK store in <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/warrington">Warrington</a>. With Plan &amp; Order points in Aintree, Stockport, and now Preston, our existing full-size stores in nearby <a href="https://completelyretail.co.uk/shops-to-rent/ashton-under-lyne">Ashton-under-Lyne</a> and Warrington, collection points, home planning and remote and digital services, we are enabling an IKEA where customers can shop in the most convenient way for them."

A merger between <a href="https://news.completelyretail.co.uk/cma-could-halt-asdas-600m-petrol-forecourt-deal/">Asda</a> and petrol stations giant, <a href="https://news.completelyretail.co.uk/asda-finalises-2-27bn-eg-group-acquisition/">EG Group</a>, will hit jobs and “is not in the best interests” of her constituents, an MP has warned.



Lancashire West MP, Ashley Dalton, has urged the Competition and Markets Authority to look into the deal.



Dalton said: “As one of the largest private sector employers in the UK, the future sustainability of Asda is important to my constituents that work there. Their livelihoods rely on it.”



She pointed to Asda’s reported debts of £4.7bn which could swell to £11.7bn under the merger.



“The merger looks set to hugely increase the debt burden on Asda, which will threaten jobs in Skelmersdale, across West Lancs and beyond as well as the future of the company,” Dalton said.



Issa brothers-owned Asda announced its acquisition of EG Group at the end of May in a £2.27bn deal.



The supermarket giant said that it plans to invest more than £150m within the next three years to integrate the combined businesses.&nbsp;



Shareholders are providing a further £450m to fund the transaction, Asda said.
