The property is presented as a single retail unit (but could potentially be divided into two or three shop units, subject to planning and other necessary consents) with residential/storage accommodation on the first floor and an extensive storage area in the basement. There is vehicular access to the rear from Church Street with parking for three cars and an attractive walled garden/additional parking area.

The Old Sun Inn is a prominent Grade 1 Listed retail and residential property of timber construction below a pitched tiled roof. The building dates from the fourteenth century and is renowned as an important tourist attraction in Saffon Walden. The diarist Samuel Pepys and the writer John Evelyn both recorded visits and Oliver Cromwell is said to have stayed there during the Civil War. The property is especially well-known for the ornate plasterwork or “pargetting” on its façade depicting ornate birds, flowers and geometric patterns. Originally built as a medieval merchant’s house, it evolved into an Inn and for the last 50 years has been occupied as a flourishing antique shop. Due to the current owner retiring, the property is now on the market for the first time since 1967.

Saffron Walden is an attractive and affluent commuter market town, situated in rural North Essex with a resident population of 15,000 and 70,000 within the district of Uttlesford. Due to its charm, character and wealth of medieval listed buildings, it is a popular tourist destination. The well-known commuter station of Audley End is five minutes drive from the town, with a journey time to London Liverpool Street of 55 minutes, Tottenham Hale London Underground Station (Victoria Line) 40 mins and Cambridge 20 minutes.
