Bradford - The Broadway Bradford

Work is expected to start in the second half of 2013 on a major new retail destination at the heart of Bradford. The 550,000 sq ft Development will be anchored by Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and Next and will transform the cities retail and leisure offer with a mix of more than 70 fashion, food and lifestyle brands

Bradford is a vibrant city with ambitious development plans and boasts the 3rd largest economy in the Yorkshire and Humber region, contributing £8.3 billion per annum to the UK economy with a population of 522,000, predicted to be the 5th fastest growing city in the UK outside of the capital

With Bradford already home to a number of corporate headquarters including Morrisons, Yorkshire Building Society and Hallmark Cards, the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council has committed to building on this solid foundation by launching the £35m City Centre Growth Zone initiative offering the following potential benefits to retailers at the Broadway development

The Merry Hill retail complex comprises 241 retail outlets within the covered centre, 24 retail warehouse units, a multiplex cinema and several restaurants together with over 8,000 car parking spaces.

The wide range of retail outlets available and excellent accessibility enables the centre to capture a significant proportion of the £6.6 billion retail expenditure available within the catchment area.

Since acquiring Merry Hill in 2004 Westfield has improved the centre significantly; the retail mix has been transformed with the introduction of over 100 new retailers. Westfield has also successfully attracted a number of major brands by reconfiguring space to meet retailers’ modern day requirements. Merry Hill continues to evolve; the ambiance of the centre has been dramatically improved with the installation of full height glazed shop fronts and the continuous refurbishment of the malls. A 1,200 seat food court ‘Eat Central’ has created a new social hub for Merry Hill at the heart of the centre with a diverse mix of dining in a contemporary environment.

Stratford - Westfield Stratford City

Westfield Stratford City is Europe’s largest urban shopping and leisure destination. Launched in September 2011, the £1.75 billion development is the prestigious gateway to the Olympic Park in London and attracted an unprecedented 1 million visitors within the first week of opening with footfall averaging over 900,000 visitors a week in the first 14 weeks of trading. Westfield Stratford City is home to over 250 shops, 70 places to eat and drink and is anchored by John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, a 17-screen state of the art Vue cinema as well as All Star Lanes bowling and Aspers casino. In addition, Westfield Stratford City is home to three hotels and grade A office space.

As part of the wider masterplan, Westfield Stratford City will also be home to up to 1,200 homes and 1.1 million sq ft of office space.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - Open from 2013

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be no ordinary park. From 2013, the Park will have been transformed into a brand new piece of the City, right in the heart of East London. State-of-the-art venues and attractions will sit alongside homes, schools and businesses amongst open green spaces and pieces of art. It will become London’s leading destination for leisure, life and business; a model of modern, sustainable urban regeneration, attracting an estimated 9.3 million visitors per year. It will offer the best of London all in one place.

Commercial Office Space

The International Quarter will provide four million square feet of flexible commercial office space. And following the Games, the Press and Broadcast Centre will be converted into 91,000 square metres of new business space.

New Homes

The Athletes’ Village will become East Village and provide 2,818 new homes for the area, as well as 350 homes within the International Quarter.

Iconic Event Venues

The Stadium will become a 60,000-capacity entertainment venue. It will play host to a yearly programme of community events, high-profile sports, concerts and, in 2017, the World International Athletics Championships. The Multi-Use Arena will be turned into a 7,500-capacity indoor entertainment venue.

Aquatics Centre

After the games, the Aquatics Centre will cater for local schools, the local community and some of the UK’s best sporting talent. It will also host national and European competitions with an expected 80,000 visitors in attendance each year.
